March 5 Council update: Site Development Plan for new development in The Lanterns approved; construction contract for road improvements at Founders Parkway and Crowfoot Valley Road moves forward

In a study session Tuesday night, Town Council heard an overview on Town finances and economic development. Following the study session, Council discussed several items, including awarding contracts for the 2019 Pavement Maintenance Program. The Town plans road maintenance on a five-year rotation to improve the safety and longevity of the community’s roadways. This year’s work will be in The Meadows. The Town will be investing $15 million this year in road maintenance. That funding is primarily from the Town’s Transportation Fund, which includes revenue from sales tax, motor vehicle tax and building use tax.

Council also received an update on construction at Deputy Zack S. Parrish III Memorial Park. The park’s design team is working to incorporate a memorial that honors both Deputy Parrish and the law enforcement profession.

Here’s a look at a couple other item Council discussed Tuesday:

  • Resolution for a Site Development Plan in The Lanterns – Town Council approved a proposal to construct a new development south of Crystal Valley Parkway. The Lanterns was annexed into the Town in 2002. The development plan proposes an 848-acre master-planned community, which would include approximately 1,200 single-family homes. Additionally, a total of 549 acres, or 65 percent of the property, will be set aside for open space and public land. That land includes 14 miles of trails, a Douglas County Schools site and a 40-acre park site dedicated to the Town.

  • Construction contract for road improvements at Founders Parkway and Crowfoot Valley Road approved – Council finalized a construction contract with Concrete Express for improvements to Founders Parkway and Crowfoot Valley Road. The $3.5 million project is a partnership between the Town and CDOT. It includes widening Founders Parkway between Woodlands Boulevard and Crowfoot Valley Road and widening Crowfoot Valley Road between Founders Parkway and Knobcone Drive. Work is expected to begin this spring and continue through fall.
