[ARCHIVED] Upcoming meeting to explore addition of trails at Ridgeline Open Space

Ridgeline Open Space in The Meadows has an amazing network of trails, known by mountain bikers throughout the Front Range as some of the best singletrack around.

The Town has plans to make the space an even better destination by adding 4.5 miles of trail sometime this year.

An open house to present the plans and get residents’ input on them will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, at the nearby Bison Park, 1390 Clear Sky Way.

The proposed expansion would create a continuous 10-mile trail loop on the part of the property west of Coachline Road, which already has 6.5 miles of trail. Those trails were developed in 2008 through a partnership between the Town and the Castle Rock Development Co.

The goal of the planned addition is to enhance the trail experience; provide access to more of the 370-acre property; and help accommodate the growing use of this popular open space area.

Hiking also is allowed on the trails, which offer views of the Town as well as the Front Range.

A 33-stall parking lot opened along Coachline Road last month to provide direct access to the trail, named Stewart Trail in honor of George P. Stewart, who owned about 1,700 acres of what is now The Meadows and who served as county treasurer for 20 years.

A volunteer group called the Ridgeline Wranglers maintains Stewart Trail at Ridgeline Open Space through the Town’s POST Partners volunteer program. Find the Ridgeline Wranglers group on Facebook or view the Events calendar at to learn how you can help.
