Castle Rock Water recommends turning off and winterizing irrigation systems by mid-October. Castle Rock typically sees its first snow by Oct. 7 and consistent freezing temperatures by Oct. 15. Blowing out the system should prevent freezing irrigation pipes and backflow devices which can break and cause difficult-to-find leaks next spring. Castle Rock Water is no longer hosting a winterization class but has created a video on how to blow out the irrigation system. Two points the video makes for successful water removal are to connect the compressor after the backflow device and to use a sufficient volume of consistent air. The video and fall maintenance tips can be found at CRconserve.com.
