[ARCHIVED] July 18 Council update

July 18 Town Council update

A construction contract for improvements of the “Four Corners” intersection of Founders Parkway, Fifth Street, State Highway 86 and Ridge Road was approved at Town Council’s July 18 meeting.

Here is a closer look:

Four Corners contract  —  To provide reliable, safe and efficient transportation, the Town will improve the “Four Corners” intersection of Founders Parkway, Fifth Street, State Highway 86 and Ridge Road. The project will include additional turn and through lanes in all directions, traffic signal upgrades, including controls, and pedestrian access upgrades.

Town Council on Tuesday approved a $10.7 million construction contract with Hudick Excavating/HEI Civil to perform this work. The funding request also included a 15% Town-managed contingency, for a total authorization of $12.3 million.

Of this total, $7.7 will come from the Town’s growth-related transportation capital funds. Another $3.6 million will come from the Denver Regional Council of Governments, and the final $1 million would be from Douglas County. Work is expected to begin next month and be completed in summer 2024.

More information about the project is online at CRgov.com/4corners

Also on Tuesday, Council approved (Approved 5-2, For: Gray, Bracken, Brooks, Hollingshead, LaFleur; Opposed: Cavey, Dietz) a site development plan for a McDonald’s restaurant with a drive-thru in the Founders Marketplace commercial center northeast of Founders Parkway and State Highway 86. The property was zoned as a neighborhood commercial center in 1985 to develop a convenient commercial area for the surrounding neighborhoods.

Additionally, Council approved a lease agreement with the Douglas County School District to allow the Town to establish 55 public parking spaces within the parking lot of the District’s administration building at 620 Wilcox St.
