[ARCHIVED] May 16 Town Council update

May 16 Town Council update

An overview of the Town’s 2023 resident survey and changes to multifamily parking requirements in Castle Rock were topics on Town Council’s May 16 meeting agenda.

Here is a closer look:

2023 community survey — Town Council reviewed the results of the 2023 community survey. The goal of the survey is to help the Town better understand how the community views its Town government.

Nearly 2,220 residents responded to the Town’s community survey from February to April. Respondents continued to rate the Town higher than other communities but indicated some areas for improvement. Managing growth continues to be the most important issue facing the Town, according to respondents, followed by “water issues.”

All but two performance questions evaluated scored a 5 or higher on a 0-10 scale. The Town maintained an overall 3.5-Star rating on a 5-Star scale, which it has received since 2017.

Town staff and Town Council will be evaluating possible responses to those concerns this spring and summer.

The full report on the survey will be posted soon to CRgov.com/2023Survey.

Multifamily parking requirements — Council directed staff to move forward with additional research for the proposed multifamily parking requirement updates, with potential further increases in parking space requirements.

Existing multifamily parking requirements vary depending on the number of bedrooms per unit. Requirements also vary for Downtown and age-restricted senior projects.

Town staff recommends adjustments to increase the requirement for regular multifamily parking to two parking spaces per unit, regardless of the number of bedrooms. Requirements for Downtown and senior projects would also increase at different rates, per staff’s recommendation.

Staff will conduct additional outreach and review different parking ratios and bring it back to Council for future consideration.

Also on the agenda, Town Council presented two proclamations, observing May 21 to May 27 as National Public Works Week and June 2023 as Ducky Derby Month.

Additionally, Council approved a resolution renaming the Town’s Blue Zone Pump Station, located at 1760 Meadows Blvd., Anderson Pump Station in honor and memory of Monty Anderson. Anderson worked for the Town for 27 years, most recently as a Plant Mechanic II for Castle Rock Water. Monty exemplified the Town’s values and he was an active member of the Douglas County community. He was widely acknowledged as Castle Rock Water’s resident expert on all matters mechanical and electrical.
