[ARCHIVED] Preparations being made to end bus service; fare collection suspended final two weeks

The Town bus service, commonly referred to as CATCO, will cease operations at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 30.

The Town’s proposed 2011 budget, set for Town Council approval on Dec. 7, includes $50,000 to purchase rides for transit-dependent residents in lieu of the Town operating its own bus service.

In appreciation for the loyalty of the bus service’s passengers, Town Council last week voted to suspend collection of the $1-per-ride fare after Dec. 20. That means rides from Dec. 21 through 30 will be free. (The service does not operate weekends or Town holidays and thus will not run Dec. 24-26 or 31.)

Preparations are being made for the bus service’s shut down.

As part of that process, people who have purchased prepaid books of tickets may request a refund for any unused tickets beginning Dec. 1.

Full ticket books will be refunded at their face value. Tickets remaining in partially used books and single tickets that have been removed from their books will be refunded at $1 per ticket.

Refunds will be available through Jan. 31. Tickets can be brought to the Castle Rock Service Center, 4175 N. Castleton Court, or to the Finance window at Town Hall, 100 N. Wilcox St.

Both are open weekdays – the Service Center from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Town Hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Also as part of the shutdown process, the Town will be developing contracts with the Castle Rock Senior Center, South Suburban Taxi and Parker-based care company To the Rescue to purchase of about 250 rides per month for transit-dependent residents during 2011.

Details on how those services can be utilized will be posted at CRgov.com/transit as soon as they are available.

Meanwhile, anyone with questions regarding the shutdown of the Town bus service should call Town Transportation Planning Manager Bob Watts, 303-814-6415 or bwatts@CRgov.com.
