Grab your bike, helmet and a few decorations. Family fun is lighting up East Plum Creek Trail at the Town’s annual Pedal the Moon bike ride Saturday, July 16.
The family ride will depart from Castle View High School, 5254 N. Meadows Drive, at 7 p.m. Or, take the shorter route and leave from Douglas County High School, 2842 Front St. Under the light of the moon, riders will follow East Plum Creek Trail to Festival Park. Please keep in mind this is approximately a 6-mile bike ride. However, the course is mostly flat terrain and suitable for riders of all ages.
Cyclists are encouraged to participate in the festive spirit by decorating their bikes with lights and other decorations. There also will be a decorating station at the t-section of Hangman’s Gulch and East Plum Creek trails were riders can get creative with glow-in-the-dark items. Additionally, all participants must wear a helmet and have a front headlamp and blinking rear light.
Following the ride, there will be hot dogs, chips and drinks at Festival Park. Plus, telescopes will be set up by the International Dark-Sky Association. After the festivities, families are encouraged to ride back to Douglas County or Castle View High School. Interested in a one-way trip? Make arrangements to leave a car or be picked up at the park.
Registration is $18 for adults, $16 for seniors and $14 for children under 12. The registration fee includes a T-shirt and refreshments at Festival Park.
