A contract to assess the Town’s sewer lines for blockages was approved, and an ordinance to make Juneteenth a Town holiday was given initial approval, at Town Council’s May 3 meeting.
Here is a closer look:
DRC is the only vendor in Colorado that can perform this work, which uses transmitters, receivers and sound to determine the level of blockage in a line. Under the contract, the Town will pay DRC $354,120 to complete inspections of the Town’s entire sewer system – consisting of 310 miles of underground pipe and more than 10,000 manholes – over the next few months.
With this new system, cleaning and video inspection work can be better targeted, improving efficiency, saving water and diesel fuel and reducing the risk of sewer overflows.

Juneteenth became a federal holiday last year and a State holiday this year. Numerous other states and more than 30 Colorado municipalities have also designated the day a holiday.
Council gave initial approval Tuesday to change Town Code to make Juneteenth a Town holiday. Final consideration of the ordinance is expected to occur at Council’s next meeting on May 17.

Also on the agenda, Council updated the Town’s Source Water Protection Plan – originally adopted in 2018 – to add West Plum Creek. The plan specifies best practices, including public education and coordination with other area agencies, to protect the Town’s drinking water sources.
