For more than three decades Butterfield Crossing Park has been home to countless swim lessons, youth sports practices and community events. Beginning in May, the beloved community park will undergo renovations to improve accessibility, address life-cycle replacements and enhance the user experience.
Butterfield Crossing Park renovations are expected to be complete in spring 2023 and include:
- basketball court replacement
- replacing the open court area with six pickleball courts
- replacing and relocating the tennis courts
- construction of a large and small pavilion
- outdoor fitness area
- new trail connections
- restroom improvements
- irrigation upgrades
- upgraded sports lighting and security lighting
- new accessible playground
Throughout the design process, public feedback identified a strong community need for the addition of an inclusive playground at the park. This site is ideal given its size, existing infrastructure and location. The Castle Rock Parks and Trails Foundation is currently fundraising for the fully inclusive Possibilities Playground and intends to make a significant contribution to the Town to support this effort. Construction of the playground could begin this fall, dependent on the outcome of fundraising efforts. Details on the planned play equipment and amenities are available at CRgov.com/PossibilitiesPlayground.
“Residents gave us input through several surveys on the upgrades and new amenities they wanted to see at this popular park, and we’re looking forward to making some exciting improvements as a result of that feedback,” said Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Brauer. “When we install the Possibilities Playground, it will be one of only a handful of inclusive playgrounds on the Front Range.”
Join us for a project kickoff from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at the Butterfield Crossing Park plaza, 3952 Butterfield Crossing Drive. Refreshments will be provided.
Before construction begins, fencing will be installed around the perimeter of the park. The pool and the north synthetic fields will remain open during construction. The plaza will remain open as much as possible. The main walkway to and from Meadow View Elementary will remain open until school is out for summer break. The sidewalks along Meadows Boulevard and Butterfield Crossing Drive will remain open throughout the project.
Be aware that parking at the park will be reduced during construction. Parking will be available along Butterfield Crossing Drive and at Meadow View Elementary during the summer.
