[ARCHIVED] Dry, windy weather causes Town to implement fire restrictions

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in place

In Colorado, windy days are a familiar part of spring. Too many windy days create dry conditions, which often mean fire restrictions in Castle Rock.

Acting on authority granted by Town Council, Town Manager David L. Corliss and Fire and Rescue Chief Norris W. Croom III implemented the Stage 1 restrictions, effective immediately.

Under Stage 1 restrictions, there shall be no:

  • Open burning of any kind except in developed or residential areas on private property
  • Use of fireworks

However, fireplaces within buildings are allowed. Also allowed under the restrictions are:

  • Fires within liquid-fueled or gas stoves
  • Fireplaces within buildings
  • Charcoal grill fires within developed residential or commercial areas and fires within wood-burning stoves
  • Chimineas, fire pits and charcoal smokers/barbecues on private property away from combustibles
  • Permitted sale of legal fireworks
  • Professional fireworks displays permitted according to section 12-28-103 of the C.R.S.
  • Fire suppression or fire department training fires
  • Tiki torches and small recreational fires at developed picnic or campground sites. (Flames cannot exceed 4 feet in length and must be supervised by a responsible person who is at least 21 years old.)

People found to be in violation of the Town’s fire restrictions are subject to punishment of a $1,000 fine, 180 days in jail or both.

The Town will continue to monitor conditions. Stay tuned to CRgov.com/FireBans for current information. Inquiries regarding the current status of fire restrictions in Town should be directed to the Fire Chief’s Office, 303-660-1066.
