[ARCHIVED] Feb. 15 Council update: Council approves water conservation, traffic signal performance items

Feb. 15 Town Council update

Two initiatives to conserve water and one to improve traffic signals in Town were advanced at Tuesday’s Town Council meeting.

Here is a closer look:

  • Water conservation items – Town Council approved the continuation of two initiatives intended to promote water conservation. The first is a rebate program for Castle Rock Water customers who replace their turf with water wise ColoradoScape or who improve their irrigation systems or toilets to be more water smart. A rebate will also be available toward whole-home water-monitoring systems.

Rebates will be offered first-come, first-served until $145,000 in program funding is exhausted. They will be funded through surcharges for excessive watering. Additional information will be shared at CRgov.com/Rebates.

Council also approved the 2022 Water Use Management Plan, which identifies regulations including watering schedules. The Town has used such schedules since 1985 to stagger demand. Learn more at CRgov.com/WaterPlans.

  • Traffic signal performance project – Traffic signals will be improved in five corridors within Town under a grant-funded program Council approved Tuesday. The corridors are Meadows Parkway, Wolfensberger Road, Wilcox Street, Fifth Street, and Plum Creek Parkway. Under a $331,560 contract – 80% of which will be reimbursed through a grant from the Denver Regional Council of Governments – planning firm Kimley-Horn will update software, create a data dashboard and retime signals within the corridors over the course of nine months.

Also on the agenda, Council approved the selection of the original sculpture “Still Wild” by Amie Jacobsen to be installed in the plaza between Town Hall and the Encore development to the south. Encore’s developer, Confluence Companies, is funding the $50,000 project.
