On Tuesday, Jan. 25, at approximately 9:45 a.m., the Castle Rock Police Department received a call about a male who had walked into a local business and reported a suspicious incident near the intersection of Fourth and Wilcox streets. Minutes later, CRPD received another call about the same individual running into traffic and trying to stop cars. Officers responded and attempted to contact the subject. However, he refused to talk with them.
Officers remained in the parking lot and within minutes heard gunshots coming from the intersection of Fifth and Wilcox Streets. The same individual was identified as the shooter and was immediately taken into custody without incident.
During the initial investigation, officers discovered the subject fired multiple shots from the east side of Wilcox Street to the west side, striking several businesses and one occupied vehicle.
“We are very lucky that no one was injured, and that we were able to take this individual into custody and prevent any further danger to our community,” said Police Chief Jack Cauley.
Detectives located several shell casings and recovered a handgun at the scene. The subject is being held at the Douglas County Detention Facility and is the only involved party in the incident.
This remains an active investigation. Anyone who has information regarding this incident who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact Detective Williams at mwilliams@crgov.com.
