[ARCHIVED] Help plan Castle Rock’s water future; master plan open house Oct. 21

Water Resources Strategic Master Plan Open House

Identifying how much water we need for the future is part of every Castle Rock Water plan. Forecasting growth, changing weather conditions and fluctuating conservation efforts are also accounted for in the department’s Water Resources Strategic Master Plan, which is the primary plan to ensure a strong water future for our community.

Originally developed in 2006, the Water Resources Strategic Master Plan has been reviewed over the years. Now, it’s time for another update, and Castle Rock Water wants feedback from residents.

The department knows a good plan involves feedback from the community. So, Castle Rock Water is asking residents to provide input and complete a 13-question survey at Residents are also invited to join an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Castle Rock Water Customer Service and Administration Building, 175 Kellogg Court. Staff will be on hand to provide updates and answer questions.

“Planning for the future is extremely important,” said Castle Rock Water Director Mark Marlowe. “But, we also need to be ready to adjust the plan when necessary. Equally important, we want to make sure we’re checking in with residents to ensure we’re all on the same page regarding the community’s water future.”

Generally, the Water Resources Strategic Master Plan is updated every five years. Since the last update, Castle Rock Water has completed a lot. The department’s accomplishments include: securing and importing more renewable surface water, developing increased storage, building additional groundwater wells and introducing purified reuse water.

Over the next five years, the department is planning to focus on adding storage, infrastructure and imported renewable water options. Increasing conservation efforts is also a highlight of the plan. Learn more about the entire Water Resources Strategic Master Plan on the website.
