Wide open spaces are waiting for you; provide feedback to help plan the community’s next open space

Wide open spaces are waiting for you

Acquiring more open space is a priority for Castle Rock. But, after the property is acquired, the work really begins. From entrance roads, to parking lots, to trail systems, a lot of work goes into making sure a property is accessible to the public. Now, the Town is planning the community’s next open space and trail system and would like to show residents more about the project and get their feedback.

The Town has 230 acres of open space in Cobblestone Ranch that the developer dedicated per Town requirements. Additionally, there are 450 acres of open space in Douglas County’s adjacent Macanta property. The Town is partnering with Douglas County to master plan possible improvements on these combined properties.

Join us for an open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Wrangler Park Pavilion, 2418 Autumn Sage St. The landscape architect will have a draft plan showing possible trail routes and other improvements. Learn more and provide feedback about the trails planned for the area and how the property could be improved to provide access to the public.

Not able to attend the open house? View the draft plan and provide feedback online Sept. 1 through 30 at CRgov.com/OpenSpacePartnership.

Please note, there is no timeline set for improvements. Public feedback will help determine trail alignments, project scope and future budget needs. Stay up to date on the project’s webpage.

At the open house, staff will also be providing an update on the Colorado Front Range Trail. Work is set to begin on the 2.7-mile central segment to connect Hangman’s Gulch and McMurdo Gulch trails in 2022. Another 0.6-mile northern segment will connect through the Cobblestone Ranch neighborhood. These are two of the last three segments in Castle Rock that are part of the envisioned Statewide trail. Once complete, Castle Rock residents will be able to travel north to Denver via the Cherry Creek Trail. Learn more at CRgov.com/FrontRangeTrail.
