[ARCHIVED] CRPD brings Touch-A-Truck back to Castle Rock Aug. 21

Touch a Truck, Saturday, Aug. 21

Beep, beep! Buckle your seatbelts and hold on tight! The Castle Rock Police Department is proud to welcome back the community-favorite Touch-A-Truck experience.

Now in its fifth year, the event kicks off Saturday, Aug. 21, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Event Center. The engines will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., where kids will have an opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat and explore police cars, firetrucks, helicopters and more. For visitors who prefer a more relaxed experience, participants are encouraged to attend a special “no horn” hour from 9 to 10 a.m.

“The community’s support of this event has been absolutely incredible,” said Traffic Officer Justin Smith who has planned the event every year since its inception. “At our first Touch-A-Truck back in 2016, we had maybe 3,000 people attend throughout the day. Today, it has grown to nearly 8,000 visitors and dozens of participants.”

Not only will families have an opportunity to climb inside and take pictures of the various trucks, their operators will be on hand to answer questions and teach people how they work.

“Our goal is for families to leave the event with a better understanding of the role each of these trucks and vehicles plays in keeping residents safe,” Officer Smith said. “At the event, we have a little bit of everything from first responders to construction, transportation and landscaping companies.”

The Touch-A-Truck event is free to attend. Food trucks will be available at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. In addition, Life Electric – a local Castle Rock business – will be sponsoring a face-painting booth for kids.
