[ARCHIVED] Painting positivity with new mural to be unveiled June 4

Painting Positivity

They say, “creativity is contagious,” and Castle Rock has definitely been bitten by the bug.

With the goal of instilling positivity into the community, the Town’s Public Art Commission and the Castle Rock Artist Cooperative have teamed up to bring a slew of grassroots public art projects to Downtown. Now, a new mural is being installed to use art to inspire positivity, unity and hope.

The commission issued a call for mural project entries back in March. Artists were invited to submit a proposal to provide a large-scale work of art using the theme, “Painting Positivity.” More than 70 submissions were received, and artists Emma Gottschalk and Josh Eller were selected.

Gottschalk and Eller have a passion for positivity. That combined with nearly a decade of experience in fine art, mural projects and graphic design, made them the ideal team for the project. The artists’ vision is to use vibrant colors, bold illustration style and inspiring language to enhance the liveliness of Castle Rock.

The mural is being installed at The Fort CPA Group building, 407 Wilcox St. Don’t miss the ribbon-cutting and dedication event at 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 4. Light refreshments will be provided.

“The Public Art Commission believes that art is a powerful force for healing,” said Vice Chair Jen Perry. “While our world is struggling to come together in person, these art installations can remind us how connected we are as humans.”

The Public Art Commission works to acquire art for public buildings and parks in Castle Rock. The group aims to create community vibrancy with art reflecting the Town’s charm, heritage and beauty. The mission of the Castle Rock Artist Cooperative is to bring the beauty and experience of art to the community.
