Calling all bakers. It’s that festive time of year where food definitely takes center stage, especially pie. Do you have what it takes to rise to the occasion? Don’t be afraid to take whisks and take part in the Town’s pie baking competition Saturday, Nov. 7.
The Pie Bake-Off is open to all local bakers. There will be two categories for judging – fruit and non-fruit pies. New this year, there will also be a youth category. Pies will be judged on appearance, crust, filling and overall flavor and taste.
One entry is permitted per person. There is a $30 entry fee, and the event will be limited to 25 contestants per category. Registration is available at CRgov.com/Pies.
Bakers should drop off two identical pies at the Millhouse at Philip S. Miller Park between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. One pie will be for the judges, the other will be for general consumption. Judging will begin at 11:30 a.m.
Entries must include a fully typed recipe with a list of ingredients and instructions. Pies must be brought in disposable bakeware, and final pies may not contain raw or uncooked eggs. Also, no special handling is permitted once the pie has been dropped off (refrigeration, heating, etc.).
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be changes to this year’s event to accommodate social distancing and abide by State health guidelines. Tables will be spaced 6-feet apart and guests will be asked to wear masks when entering and moving around the event. Additionally, there will be no self-service. Staff will be available to serve the beverages and pie.
Don’t have any baking skills? Come to the competition free of charge to try pies by the slice. More information is at CRgov.com/Pies.
