[ARCHIVED] Castle Rock Police Department hosts Rally of Hope for Suicide Awareness Month

September is National Suicide Awareness Month. Now, more than ever, it’s important we talk about mental health. The Castle Rock Police Department is hosting “A Rally of Hope” on Tuesday, Sept. 1. – a community event where we can work to erase the stigma of suicide and mental health disorders, and work toward supporting one another and finding solutions.

The event will run from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Festival Park in Downtown Castle Rock. Participants will have access to local mental health providers, food trucks and sidewalk chalk for kids. Attendees will also be able to sign the community ‘Grateful Board,’ where they can share encouraging words for others or thank those who have supported them.

Yoga for First Responders (YFFR) will also be offering a free yoga class in the park. Participants only need to bring a mat - no experience or flexibility required.

“Law enforcement training has started to include methods for processing the inevitable stress that comes with a career in public safety,” YFFR founder and CEO Olivia Mead said. “Yoga has been shown to be beneficial not only for the body, but also for the mind. Everyone has stress in their lives and can use this tool. Experience a short and fun yoga class taught by the yoga instructors who teach your local police officers!”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be some social distancing measures in place to accommodate health guidelines and requirements. Booths will be spaced out accordingly, and participants are asked to wear face coverings while walking around the event.
