[ARCHIVED] Increased fire danger prompts Town to implement Stage 2 Fire Restrictions

Stage2FireRestrictionsNewGraphic

Excessive heat and a lack of precipitation have urged Castle Rock Fire and Rescue to increase fire restrictions to Stage 2.

Acting on authority granted by Town Council, Town Manager David L. Corliss and Fire and Rescue Chief Norris W. Croom III today implemented Stage 2 Fire Restrictions. Fire restrictions are meant to protect public health, safety and welfare.

Stage 2 Fire Restrictions prohibit the following:

  • ·        Open burning of any kind.
  • ·        Use or sale of fireworks
  • ·        Use of fires in chimineas, other portable fireplaces or patio fire pits
  • ·        Campfires at developed campgrounds or picnic areas

Some activities are still allowed:

  •  Cooking on gas- or liquid-fueled stoves or grills.
  •  Persons with permits specifically authorizing the prohibited act or omission.

The decision to implement further fire restrictions is based on current fuel models and the increase in the number of wildland fires in the local area. Hot, dry weather means fires can start and spread more easily, as seen with the four large wildland fires currently burning in the state.

Inquiries regarding the current status of fire restrictions in Town should be directed to the Fire Chief’s Office, 303-660-1066.
