[ARCHIVED] Town wants to talk with potential partners for transit services

Economic circumstances have made it necessary for the Town to continue evaluating what public transit services are available in the community, including who will provide them, and at what cost to the community.Funding for the Town bus service, commonly referred to as CATCO, is not included in the Town’s preliminary 2011 budget. Town Council ultimately will decide whether the service will be funded next year as part of its budget-approval process, which will wrap up in December. While the bus service may no longer be funded, Council has expressed an interest in evaluating funding next year for some form of transit service for those who are transit-dependent.As part of these considerations, Council is interested in identifying any organizations, businesses or groups of individuals who may have an interest in organizing to provide transportation to transit-dependent Castle Rock residents.Transit-dependent might generally be described as persons without access to transportation for basic needs and services. This could include senior citizens, people with disabilities, low-income persons or youth. It also could involve other persons or needs.Specifically, Council is interested in a model similar to the Senior Shuttle at the Castle Rock Senior Center, which uses volunteer drivers and thus carries a relatively low cost.Leaders of any organization that wish to discuss this opportunity with the Town should contact Transportation Planning Manager Bob Watts, 303-814-6415 or
