Over the past 10 years, Tara Vargish has worked in the Town’s Development Services Department to provide high-quality, professional land development services. She was officially named the department’s director June 16, when Town Council approved her appointment to the post following a competitive nationwide search.

“Tara has demonstrated her leadership skills and streamlined processes that have contributed to consistent, fair and accurate project reviews,” said Town Manager David L. Corliss. “We are fortunate to have her leading the Development Services team forward.”

Vargish had served as interim director since April, upon the retirement of Bill Detweiler. She had been the assistant director since 2015 and had served in other roles within the department since 2010.

“Castle Rock is an extremely desirable community to live and work in, and I am committed to protecting our sense of character and heritage as we enter this next decade of continued growth,” said Vargish. “As the director of Development Services, I will seek to improve our community outreach and transparency on development-related activities, continue to build partnerships with our community and find ways to engage more with our residents.”

In her time with the Town, Vargish has played instrumental roles in many important projects, including Castle Rock Adventist Hospital – the community’s first full-service 24/7 emergency room and hospital, the Promenade at Castle Rock retail center, Philip S. Miller Park and Rink at the Rock, which was an important catalyst for reinvigorating Downtown by increasing activity and attracting families. She also played a large role in making comprehensive Town Land Development Code updates.

“The sense of community and feeling of belonging in Castle Rock attracted our family, as well as any other residents, to Town,” said Vargish. “Protecting the high quality of life in Castle Rock is something I take seriously. I look forward to continually improving and evolving our Town Development Services to our growing and ever-changing community of residents and business owners.”

Vargish has more than 22 years of land development experience in the private civil engineering consulting field, state government and municipal government. She has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in environmental engineering, and she’s a registered Professional Engineer.
