[ARCHIVED] Applications open for 2020 Your Town Academy – apply today to learn about your Town

Your Town Academy

Gain a deeper understanding of your community at Your Town Academy, an eight-week class designed to provide Castle Rock residents and business owners a broad education about their Town government.

Applications are being accepted starting today at The application period is expected to close July 6, but it could end earlier if the class becomes full, as spaces are limited; don’t wait if you are interested in learning more about how your Town works for you.

“(I) learned so much about where I live, what it takes to create a wonderful community like ours, and met some fine neighbors,” said 2019 program graduate and resident Paula Clarke.

Generally, each of the Town’s major departments – Police, Fire and Rescue, Public Works/Roads, Parks and Recreation, Development Services and Water – will host an evening of information and interactive demonstrations regarding their service areas. The remaining two classes will contain information about the Town’s history, structure, funding and general services. A detailed course outline is available online.

The program will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on eight Mondays between Aug. 24 and Oct. 19. A graduation ceremony is expected to be held during the Oct. 20 Town Council meeting.

The class is free to adults ages 18 and up. Participants must complete at least six of the eight classes to receive a Certificate of Completion.

The class size will be capped at 30 participants. Preference for enrollment will be given first to Town residents and business owners. The class will then be filled first come, first served. Those accepted into the class will be notified in July.

Adjustments to typical programming and class locations may be necessary due to COVID-19-related restrictions. The Town will share pertinent information with admitted students as any applicable guidelines for the course’s timeframe become clear.
