We’re all in this together. It’s the motto spreading throughout the community as residents are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. With that in mind, Castle Rock Water recognizes that many customers have been financially impacted. Now, the department has new customer assistance programs to help.
With several businesses closed and many residents who have lost their jobs or had hours cut, Castle Rock Water knows customers may have difficulty paying their water bills on time. In response to these challenges, the department has developed two assistance programs to help where the impacts seem the most apparent, small businesses and residential customers.
The small business assistance program provides $1,500 in assistance to be used toward water bill costs. Qualifying small businesses are eligible for a $750 no-interest loan and a $750 credit. The residential assistance program provides customers $300 in assistance, consisting of a $150 no-interest loan and a $150 credit. These amounts were determined by calculating the three-month average monthly water bill for a typical customer.
The loans would be paid back over a 12-month period starting three months after the application is approved. For commercial accounts, this equates to a $62.50 additional charge added to their water bill per month. For residential accounts, this equates to a $12.50 additional charge added to their water bill per month. The credit does not need to be paid back.
Funds will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Residential customers should apply through the Douglas County Help and Hope Center (helpandhopecenter.org). More information on both the small business and residential programs, applications, and qualifying requirements are available at CRgov.com/CRWaterCares.
The funding and program details were approved at Town Council’s March 30 special meeting. The programs will be funded through Castle Rock Water’s Rate Revenue Stabilization Reserve.
In addition to the customer assistance programs, Castle Rock Water is currently not charging disconnect fees, late fees and non-payment fees for all customers through June 30, 2020, and has also suspended water disconnections during this time.
