[ARCHIVED] Jan. 21 Council update

Jan. 21 Council update

A study session to discuss the roles and responsibilities of the Design Review Board and final approval of Castle Rock Fire and Rescue’s 2020-2024 Community Driven Strategic Plan were both topics on Town Council’s Jan. 21 meeting agenda.

Here’s a more in-depth look at those agenda items:

  • Study session to discuss the Design Review Board – Town Council held a study session to discuss details behind the Design Review Board. The board was formed in 2010 following Council’s adoption of the Downtown Overlay District. Both were created in response to the community’s desire to revitalize and improve the Downtown area. The board is currently made up of members from the Planning Commission, Downtown Development Authority, the Historic Preservation Board and two Downtown property owners. The board’s primary responsibility is to review Site Development Plan applications submitted within Downtown boundaries.

Past projects in which the Design Review Board has been involved include The Move office building, Riverwalk, the Acme Water Tower and Encore.

The discussion will continue during a future Council meeting.

  • CRFD’s Community Driven Strategic Plan approved – Town Council approved a resolution finalizing Castle Rock Fire and Rescue’s 2020-2024 Community Driven Strategic Plan. The plan provides a guideline for community priorities and department goals for the next five years.

The strategic plan identifies the community’s top expectations as well-trained personnel, adequate response times and adequate staffing. It also identifies the community’s top concerns – keeping pace with growth, sufficient staffing, appropriate resources and adequate funding.

Also on the agenda, Town Council received an update on the Friday, Feb. 7, Night to Shine event, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. Night to Shine brings an unforgettable prom-night experience to people with special needs ages 14 and older. The Town’s Adaptive Recreation Program is hosting the event in partnership with Castle Oaks Covenant Church and Wellspring Community. Night to Shine is a national event in which hundreds of communities participate. This is the first year Castle Rock will be hosting the event.
