[ARCHIVED] July 2 Council update

July 2 Town Council Update

Town Council approved the second reading of an ordinance allowing ducks, miniature goats and miniature pot-belled pigs in Town. Once it goes into effect Oct. 1, the ordinance will allow these animals in residential areas with some restrictions. Homeowners associations within Town may still have restrictions regarding these animals that would apply, even when the ordinance goes into effect.

Here’s a look at a couple other items Council discussed Tuesday:

  • Plan to add a School Resource Officer moves forward – Town Council heard a presentation and directed staff to move forward regarding staff’s recommendation to add another middle school School Resource Officer for CRPD. Currently, one SRO covers both middle schools in Town. Adding an SRO will increase security, creating a safer environment for local students.

Douglas County School District will reimburse the Town for half of the annual operating expenses for the new SRO. The officer is expected to be in place in time for the 2019/2020 school year.

  • Initial discussion about potential changes to the Town’s Zoning Code – Council began discussing potential changes to the Town’s Zoning Code. Some changes aim to improve the code’s readability and provide needed clarifications. Another change updates the neighborhood meeting section to require more neighborhood outreach.

Council also received a staff briefing regarding additions to the code to provide interface regulations between dissimilar residential developments. Requirements might include buffering and design standards to create visually attractive transitions between different areas of the community. Staff plans to meet with impacted stakeholders before any changes would be further considered. The Council discussion is anticipated to continue at the July 16 meeting.
