Experience the wonder of science this summer with Pedal the Moon. On Friday, July 12 this family friendly bike ride will take you to Festival Park, where Colorado State University will have telescopes and hands-on activities set up. Bring your helmet, your friends and your curiosity for this fun-filled adventure.
This event has two route options along East Plum Creek Trail, both departing at 5:30 p.m. The first route is 10 miles round trip, starting at Castle View High School. A second route designed with younger kids in mind is four miles round trip, starting at Douglas County High School. If it works best for your family, travel one way and arrange for pickup at Festival Park.
Following the ride, there will be a hot dog roast, glow in the dark bike decorating, moon viewing with CSU’s Madison-Macdonald Observatory and hands-on science activities from CSU’s Little Shop of Physics. Registration includes a t-shirt, hot dog, chips and a drink. After the festivities, kids can enjoy riding back to the schools with glowing, decorated bikes.
The cost is $16 per adult and $10 per child through July 11. Registration the day of the event goes up to $20 per adult and $15 per child.
To keep safety first, all participants must wear a helmet and all bikes must have a front headlamp and a blinking rear light.
