[ARCHIVED] June 18 Council update

Town Council discussed several items at its meeting Tuesday, including the annual audit of the Town’s financial statements and approval of the 2019 updates to Castle Rock Fire and Rescue’s 2016-2019 Strategic Plan. Additionally, Council discussed the development of the Town’s next neighborhood park in Cobblestone Ranch.

Here’s a look at a few other items Council discussed Tuesday:

  • Construction contract for intersection improvements at Founders Parkway and Allen Way approved – Town Council approved a construction contract with Noraa Concrete Construction Corporation for the Founders Parkway and Allen Way Intersection Improvements Project. The project includes improving Founders Parkway from I-25 to Allen Way. Additionally, several new turn lanes, a second lane through Allen Way and Allen Street, and an additional I-25 northbound on-ramp are included in the project scope. Work is scheduled to begin in the next few weeks. Weather dependent, the project should be complete this fall.

  • Ordinance amending the Town’s animal code concerning ducks, miniature goats and miniature pot-bellied pigs moves forward – Council approved on first reading an ordinance allowing ducks, miniature goats and miniature pot-bellied pigs in Town. A second reading is required before the ordinance is finalized.

If approved on second reading, the ordinance would allow ducks, along with miniature goats and miniature pot-bellied pigs with some restrictions. Miniature goats and miniature pot-bellied pigs would need a microchip or collar, and appropriate vaccinations. Male miniature goats, and both male and female miniature pot-bellied pigs, would need to be spayed or neutered. Additionally, owners would need to adhere to strict size, breed and licensing requirements. A second reading of the ordinance is scheduled for July.

  • Resolution approving the Downtown Mobility Master Plan continued – Town Council continued the review and approval of the Downtown Mobility Master Plan. The goal of the plan is to identify transportation improvement projects that will maintain mobility, reduce congestion and improve access throughout Downtown. Additionally, the plan anticipates future growth and prioritizes projects based on need.

The master plan will be discussed at Council’s July 16 meeting.
