[ARCHIVED] Town fireworks show helps celebrate July 4

4thOfJuly NewsGraphic

Fireworks are a highlight of most Independence Day celebrations, and the Town has you covered for the traditional show. Turn your attention to Santa Fe Quarry Mesa for the year’s fireworks display.

Similar to years past, fireworks will shoot off from the top of Santa Fe Quarry Mesa at sundown (about 9:30 p.m.) The 6,700-foot butte is located just south of The Meadows, above Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course.

About the fireworks show

The high-flying show will be about 18 minutes long. You’ll know the fireworks are about to begin, because there will be a three-shot salute 5 minutes before the show starts. A similar fireworks salute will also happen about 1 minute prior to the show.

The fireworks should be seen from most places in Town. However, visibility may be limited in Crystal Valley Ranch, Plum Creek, Founders, Castlewood Ranch and Sapphire Pointe. If you’re parking in neighborhoods to see the show, please be courteous of driveways and adhere to any posted neighborhood parking restrictions. Also, parking along major streets and roadways will be limited.

Golf course information

The Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course will be open normal hours (6 a.m. to dark). If you choose to take in the fireworks show at the golf course, please do so from the Clubhouse parking lot or the driving range. The parking lot will be open after sunset. Additionally, there will be food and drink specials available at the Clubhouse Grill.

For safety and maintenance reasons, please stay in the parking lot or driving range area and off the greens, as rattlesnakes and other wildlife at the course can be a concern. Please note, personal fireworks are not allowed at the golf course. Alcoholic beverages are also prohibited unless they are purchased from the golf course directly.

Stay tuned

Based on weather, the timing of the show could change. In case of lightning, the show may be rescheduled. Stay tuned to CRgov.com/fireworks and the Town’s Facebook page (CRgov) for updates.

Personal fireworks information

As you celebrate, please remember, fireworks are only legal in Castle Rock on July 4. Also, fireworks are only allowed if the community is not under fire restrictions. As a general rule, fireworks that leave the ground, explode or break off into pieces are not allowed.
