After nearly 17 years with Castle Rock Public Works – and 38 years in the profession overall – Public Works Director Bob Goebel is retiring, effective June 3.
“We are grateful to Bob for his excellent dedication and service to the Town of Castle Rock and wish him the best in his retirement,” said Town Manager David Corliss. “Under Bob’s leadership, the Town’s Public Works Department has developed into one of the best in the country.”
The Town’s department achieved accreditation in 2016 from the American Public Works Association. At the time, the department was only the 110th to receive that distinction since 1997.
Goebel began his career with the City of Wheat Ridge and was Public Works Director for 14 of his 21 years there. He joined Town staff in 2002 as a Project Manager and was promoted to Assistant Director before becoming Director in April 2005.
During his tenure with the Town, Goebel was instrumental in the achievement of numerous Town transportation projects, including the extension of Plum Creek Parkway from Coachline Road to Ridge Road, with associated interchange improvements; the addition of the Castle Rock Parkway/North Meadows Drive interchanges on Interstate 25 and U.S. Highway 85; improvements to Ridge Road and to Founders/Meadows Parkway; construction of the Front Street Flyover; and ongoing maintenance to all of the Town’s streets through the annual Pavement Maintenance Program.
Those wishing to bid Goebel best wishes are invited to attend a farewell reception at Pegasus Restaurant, 313 Jerry St., from 3 to 5 p.m. this Thursday, May 30.
Following retirement, Goebel plans to remain in Colorado and intends to spend his time enjoying life, family, faith and friendships.
“To be part of such a great organization and to meet so many people is truly a blessing, an honor and a privilege,” Goebel said. “The Public Works team is an awesome group of people, and I owe them more than I can ever repay.”
Assistant Public Works Director Dan Sailer will be Interim Director Following Goebel’s retirement. Sailer has worked for the Town since 2000 and is an active member of the American Public Works Association, serving on two national committees, and as an accreditation evaluator for that group.
The Town will be taking action this summer to permanently fill the Public Works Director post by conducting a nationwide search. The goal is to name a new director this fall.
