Teen Court Volunteer Training
Monday, June 5, 2023
Teen Court is a community-based intervention/prevention program that provides an alternative to the justice system for first-time, nonviolent juvenile offenders. The program holds offenders accountable and promotes long-term behavioral change that leads to enhanced public safety.
Teens who volunteer with the program receive legal training and then sit on “peer panels” to decide the appropriate sanctions for youth offenders whose cases are heard in Teen Court.
The training sessions will be held at Castle Rock Municipal Court, 100 Perry St., from 9 a.m. to noon on June 5 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 6. The group trainings are fun and interactive and will include guest speakers.
Volunteers must be entering eighth grade or high school during the 2023-24 school year. They receive community service credit, experience leadership opportunities and learn about the criminal justice and court systems.
