Ridge Road Widening

From Founders Village to Downtown, Ridge Road is a key roadway connecting motorists to neighborhoods around Town. As part of its Transportation Master Plan, the Town is investing in the widening of Ridge Road from Fifth Street to Plum Creek Parkway.

Project overview

This project includes the addition of two lanes along Ridge Road, between Fifth Street and Plum Creek Parkway, and roundabout modifications at Endured Boulevard and Plum Creek Parkway.

Additional improvements include a new sidewalk on the west side, a raised median, bicycle lanes and flashing crosswalk beacons to improve pedestrian and driver safety.

The project will improve access to the Interstate 25/Plum Creek Parkway interchange on the south end of Town and the Founders Parkway interchange on the north end of Town. The project will also decrease traffic congestion in the area.

Project progress

Design began in 2017 and construction was originally scheduled for 2019. However, the project was rescheduled for construction starting in June 2022. The Ridge Road widening project is estimated to be completed by the end of summer 2023.

Improvements will include:

  • Drainage improvements
  • Roadway widening
  • Sidewalk improvements
  • Street lighting

Funding

The project will cost about $4.6 million and is primarily funded by the Transportation Capital Fund, which receives revenue from development impact fees.

Transportation planning

These improvements were defined in the Town's Transportation Master Plan. Reducing congestion in the area has been a priority for Town Council. Learn more about the plan and read the document.

Construction

From May through June, please watch for new traffic patterns in the area. The detours are needed so that the construction team can safely improve the roundabout at Ridge Road and Plum Creek Parkway.

The project team has experienced significant delays due to the unprecedented amount of rain and flooding conditions experienced over May. As a result, the project will remain in its Phase 1 detour through the middle of June, weather dependent.

For safety, please give yourself extra time to make your trip. Construction crews will be working along the roadside, with trucks entering and exiting the construction zone.

Phase 1 detour occurs May 8 through mid-June

During the Phase 1 detour, the southern portion of the Plum Creek Parkway and Ridge Road roundabout will be closed. This means that motorists located south of the roundabout will need to use Mikelson Boulevard to Lantern Trail and Enderud Boulevard as a detour.

Two-way traffic on Plum Creek Parkway will be maintained. Motorists heading eastbound on Plum Creek Parkway will still be able to turn left onto Ridge Road.

Phase 2 detour occurs from the middle of June through the end of the month (weather dependent)

During the Phase 2 detour, the inside lane of the Ridge Road and Plum Creek Boulevard roundabout will be closed. Northbound Ridge Road motorists who want to travel Plum Creek Parkway will need to use the roundabout at Enderud Boulevard, take the third exit, and make a right turn onto Plum Creek Parkway.
