Commander Jason Lyons began his law enforcement career in 1994 with the United States Army Military Police Corps. Before joining the Castle Rock Police Department, Commander Lyons served 15 years with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in Clearwater, Florida where he rose to the rank of lieutenant. During his law enforcement career, he has held various assignments in Patrol and Investigations as well as supervisory and command assignments in Patrol, Training, Strategic Planning, and Court Security.
Commander Lyons received an Associate of Law Enforcement Technology degree from St. Petersburg College, a Bachelor in Administration of Criminal Justice degree from Mountain State University and a Master of Justice Administration degree from Norwich University.
In addition to his organizational responsibilities, Commander Lyons also teaches in a variety of domains to include:
• Leadership instructor for the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police
• Professor at Johnson and Wales University
Commander Lyons also sat on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Standards Training Commission, Law Enforcement Advisory Team as a Subject Matter Expert in police training.
Commander Lyons holds memberships with the FBI National Academy Associates, FBI-Law Enforcement Executive Development Association, International Associations of Chiefs of Police, Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police, the Police Executive Research Forum and International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association among many others.
He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, PERF's Senior Management Institute for Police, Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command and sits on the International Community Policing Committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).
