Art in Castle Rock

It’s important for the public to know that no taxpayer money is used to purchase public art. The Philip S. Miller trust fund is the funding mechanism the Town uses for all of the public art you see around Town. The Town is one of several entities that benefits annually from the trust, left by the local banker and philanthropist and his wife, Jerry.

The Millers bequeathed a portion of the proceeds of their substantial estate to the Town, and Town Council, in turn, earmarks money annually for public art, along with other community driven programs. The Public Art Commission recommends expenditures in keeping with a Town goal to advance Philip S. Miller’s legacy by fostering a sense of community and enhancing community character.

The Town of Castle Rock is continuously striving to attain more public art. Public art means many things to people. It is a form of expression, it documents history, it can be a celebration or a legacy. It can ignite creativity, share culture and inspire conversation.

* Castle Rock is part of a county-wide Art Encounters Program where various works of art are selected for a one-year period within Castle Rock, Parker, Lone Tree and Highlands Ranch. Those pieces are denoted with an "*".
