Signs
Community balance
Signs are necessary to provide direction and guidance for motor vehicles and pedestrian traffic. Outdoor signs and advertisements are vital to Town businesses. The Town of Castle Rock
Sign Code, Title 19, provides regulations to determine a reasonable balance between the need for signs and the desire for an aesthetically pleasing place to live and visit. Signs are regulated to ensure the goals and objectives of the community are being met, as well as for the protection of the public health, safety and welfare.
What is a sign?
Examples of signage include, but are not limited to: a picture, an emblem, a trademark, a flag, a banner, an advertising message, an announcement, a display, an illustration, or an insignia. Signs within structures or located inside individual business establishments are excluded from the sign code regulations.
Special event banners
The Town banner system on North Wilcox Street was used in the past for advertising community events. The Wilcox banner sign poles failed in fall 2010. Now, the Town has an LED sign outside Town Hall, 100 N. Wilcox St. For information on the sign, visit the Town Hall LED sign webpage.
Sandwich board signs
A sandwich board sign is a temporary, portable A-frame sign. Town Council approved sandwich board signs in all business areas of Town in 2010. One sandwich board sign per business is allowed, and no sign permit is required. A sandwich board sign must be no larger than 8 square feet (per face) and must be no taller than 4 feet. A sandwich board sign may be posted in the public right of way, during business hours only.
Sign permits required
A sign permit is required to display, erect, relocate, or alter a permanent sign within Town limits. Sign permits are also required for most types of temporary signs.
Download our sign permit application form and
sign permit information sheet. Payment of a fee, and a site plan depicting the proposed location and elevations, must be submitted at the time of application.
