Oct. 1 Council update: changes to a senior-living community near Douglas County High School move forward; 2019 Design Awards announced; week of Oct. 6 proclaimed Fire Prevention Week
An amendment to the Site Development Plan for a senior-living community, a proclamation declaring the week of Oct. 6 as Fire Prevention Week and the 2019 Design Awards were all topics on Town Council’s Oct. 1 meeting agenda.
Here’s a more in-depth look at those agenda items:
- Resolution for an amendment to the Oakwood Apartments Site Development Plan is approved – Town Council approved a resolution allowing for an amendment to the Oakwood Apartments Site Development Plan. The senior-living community is near Front Street and Oakwood Drive, near Douglas County High School. There are currently 64 units in the affordable community owned by the Douglas County Housing Partnership. The amendment allows for a new centrally located three-story building that will contain the leasing center, an amenity center and 53 additional apartment units – resulting in 109 overall units on site.
- 2019 Design Awards announced – Town Council finalized the nominees for the 2019 Design Awards. The awards recognize seven projects whose design meets the Town’s updated Vision 2030 Comprehensive Master Plan. The vision identifies four cornerstones for the community. The first is “Distinct Town Identity” with the intent “to ensure Castle Rock is recognized as a unique and welcoming community.” It is with that cornerstone in mind that the Design Awards program was created.
The 2019 Design Award recipients are: Craig and Gould – 21 South Lewis St; Downtown Project – Wild Blue Yonder; Large Commercial – Personal Warehouse; Mobility/Pedestrian Enhancement – Wolfensberger Pedestrian Bridge; Neighborhood Project/Enhancement – Taft House; Public Facility – Fire Station No.152; Residential Design – Adamo Homes.
- Fire Prevention Week proclamation – The week of Oct. 6 was declared Fire Prevention Week with a proclamation at Town Council Tuesday. The annual proclamation shows the Town’s commitment to fire safety. More information is available at CRgov.com/FirePrevention.
