Castle Rock Water Update

Castle Rock Water is here to get that spring back in your step with some great actions to salute the season!

My Water Pledge

1. Take the Pledge

Every year, the Town of Castle Rock participates in the national Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation where residents are encouraged to take a simply pledge to conserve. Residents can win eco-friendly prizes and the Town gets ranked according to the number of pledges we receive. Castle Rock has made it into the top 10 for the past 5 years! This Earth Day, take the pledge.

2. Spring up the Creek

Our creeks depend on you and it's time to clean up our watershed. A clean watershed not only provides a better ecosystem for wildlife and beauty, but reduces the needs and costs for stronger drinking water treatment options. Help keep Castle Rock beautiful by joining our Spring Up the Creek event Saturday, May 1. With pandemic precautions still in place, the event looks a bit different and pre-registration is required. Register here.

3. Show off that garden

The Parade of Gardens is back and set for June 26, 2021. This event showcases local landscapes that are gorgeous, vibrant and water efficient. Have you replaced that water-guzzling lawn with colorful flowers, meandering paths and outdoor living rooms? Would you like to be a part of the parade and show off that great yard? Send us an email with your interest - we’d love to include you. Or, mark your calendars to check out the parade for inspiration!

Castle Rock Water is keeping you on track with info on how we keep clean and reliable water flowing to all of our customers.

Mark Billman

Castle Rock Water is more than water

Meet Mark Billman. He is one of many employees who work to ensure that the water coming from your tap is safe. As the Environmental, Health and Safety Program Manager, Mark oversees the testing of water quality throughout the distribution system of our drinking water supply. His group ensures there is no back-siphoning of contaminated water through cross connections into the drinking water system. He helps Castle Rock Water prepare so that malevolent attacks or natural disasters won’t disrupt the water service. He also ensures the staff’s safety with proper equipment and training. Mark is the guy who plans and plans, and hopes his plans don’t come into play.

Explaining your AWMC

April statements is the time Castle Rock Water adjusts the Average Winter Monthly Consumption (AWMC) for each individual customer. The AWMC is just what it sounds like - an average of your actual usage during the months of November through February. The AWMC determines two things on your monthly Castle Rock Water statement: the amount of water for indoor use (Tier 1) and the amount of wastewater treated each month. Though your water use may change slightly year over year, we readjust the AWMC each year since factors in your household may have changed. Because what comes in must go out, we also use this amount to calculate your wastewater charge. This charge is a fixed charge and remains the same each month throughout the year, until recalculated during the next capture period.

It is more economical to have a low AWMC so that this wastewater charge is low. Even if you happen to go over your tiered water budget occasionally, the accumulative charges will most likely be less than having a higher AWMC and monthly wastewater charge. Please feel free to call our billing department at 303-660-1373 if you have questions or visit CRgov.com/Rates.
