Help keep Castle Rock’s creeks clean at annual Spring Up the Creek event May 7

After months of snow, many of us are feeling anxious to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather. When the first dedicated volunteers gathered in 2004 to pick up trash along East Plum Creek, they had no idea they were starting a new springtime tradition. Now, years later, hundreds of people meet for the Town’s annual Spring Up the Creek event.

Join residents, students and local businesses on Saturday, May 7 at Festival Park, Second and Perry streets. Volunteers are needed to clean up areas of East Plum Creek and Sellars Gulch. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The cleanup runs from 9 to 11 a.m. Following the event, join us for family friendly activities and vendors.

The annual event helps keep the community’s water clean and promotes the importance of protecting the environment. The Town hosts this event in partnership with Douglas County, Castle Pines Metro District, Plum Creek Water Reclamation Authority and the Chatfield Watershed Authority.

Volunteers can preregister at However, preregistration is not necessary. Teens looking for community service hours should bring a community service waiver already signed by their parents.

Event partners will provide work gloves, trash bags and giveaways. Breakfast burritos, coffee and a free T-shirt will also be provided to participants.

After the cleanup, volunteers are invited to participate in fun family activities. There will be a bouncy house, along with free face painting and crafts.

Please keep in mind, Second Street will be closed. Participants should park in the Town Hall parking lot, 100 N. Wilcox St., and walk up to Perry Street to access the park.

In case of bad weather, the event will be moved to Saturday, May 21.
