Snow plows deploy into residential streets; Town facilities closed

News-RoadSNOW2.jpg

Heavy snow and blizzard conditions have caused a hazardous commute for many motorists. The Town’s plows have been working on major streets since 3:30 a.m. Crews are now deploying into residential neighborhoods.

Additional snow accumulations of up to 7 inches on grassy areas are still expected, with snowfall predicted to continue through the early afternoon. Right now, there are 13 plows working on main streets. Another 11 plows have deployed onto residential roads.

CDOT has closed I-25 south of Castle Rock. Both directions are closed from Plum Creek Parkway to Academy Blvd. North in Colorado Springs. Douglas County, with help from Castle Rock Fire and Rescue, has set up a shelter for stranded motorists in Kirk Hall at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

Town Hall, the Recreation Center, the MAC and all other Town facilities are closing at 2 p.m.

Plows will be working through residential streets to provide on lane for emergency access. Residents should be aware of snow piled in neighborhoods. The heavy wet snow rolls off the end of plows and can block driveways.
