Where the fun is as full as the moon! Grab your bike, helmet and a few decorations to light up the night with your family at the Town’s tenth annual Pedal the Moon bike ride. This year’s event will be Friday, July 31.
Meet at 7 p.m. at the pavilion in Butterfield Crossing Park, 3952 Butterfield Crossing Drive. Under the light of the moon, riders will follow the Castle Rock Police Bike Unit along East Plum Creek Trail to Festival Park. Please keep in mind this is an approximately 6-mile bike ride. However, the course is mostly-flat terrain and suitable for riders of all ages.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be some changes this year to abide by State heath guidelines and accommodate social distancing. Registration is required. Additionally, participants are asked to wear face coverings during the check in process and while walking around Festival Park.
Cyclists are encouraged to participate in the festive spirit by decorating their bikes with lights and other decorations. There will be a decorating station at the t-section of Hangman’s Gulch and East Plum Creek trails were riders can stop and get creative. Additionally, all participants must wear a helmet and have a front headlamp and blinking rear light.
Following the ride, there will be a hot dog roast at Festival Park hosted by the Boy Scouts of America and a lighting presentation by the International Dark-Sky Association. Telescopes will also be set up at the park to get a closer look at the moon. After the festivities families are encouraged to ride back to Butterfield Crossing Park, or parents interested in a one-way trip can arrange for pickup at Festival Park.
Before the event, registration is $16 for adults and $12 for children under 12. On the day of the event, the fee increases to $20 for adults and $15 for children. The registration fee includes a T-shirt, hot dog, chips and a drink.
