Every person counts: help secure funding in Castle Rock with 2020 Census

Shape your future, the Town of Castle Rock asks you to respond to the 2020 Census graphic

The U.S. Census Bureau is mailing invitations to participate in the 2020 Census to Castle Rock addresses, and they should arrive mid-March. Once you receive the invitation letter, you will be able to respond online, by email or by phone.

The Town wants everyone in our community to be included in the census, a count of everyone living in the United States and its five U.S. territories. This population count occurs every 10 years, and it affects representation in government, provides data that drives policy, and determines how much funding a community receives.

A complete and accurate count of Town residents in the 2020 Census is critical. It’s estimated that each household in Colorado that doesn’t complete the census costs a community about $2,300 in local federal funding per person, per year, for 10 years. By completing the census, you’re helping the Castle Rock community receive its fair share of federal funding for needs such as education, roads, transportation, human services, affordable housing, services for the elderly and veterans, parks and more.

“The census is more than a population count; it’s an opportunity to help shape the future of our Town,” said Town Manager David L. Corliss. “The census is used to determine how billions of dollars of federal funding flow into states and communities each year. This is our once-in-a-decade chance to help define how the funding flows into Castle Rock.”

The census questionnaire asks simple questions, such as how many people are living or staying in your home, whether your home is owned or rented, and the age of each person in your home. The census will not ask for your Social Security number, bank account information, or any information about a person’s political party affiliation, religion or citizenship status.

By law, the information you provide to the Census Bureau is kept confidential, and your responses are only used to produce statistics.

Go to 2020census.gov to see a sample questionnaire, get more information, and find help completing the census.

Help make sure our community is accurately represented by completing the census as soon as possible.
