Over the past 19 years, Dan Sailer has worked in Castle Rock’s Public Works Department supporting the Town’s transportation infrastructure and maintenance needs.
Last week, Sailer officially took the helm as the department’s director, when Town Council approved his appointment to the post following a competitive nationwide search.
Sailer had served as interim director since June and assistant director since 2012, before that serving as transportation engineering manager.
“Dan stood out as the best qualified candidate and was the clear choice for our community, demonstrating his energy, enthusiasm for the Public Works profession, expertise and desire to take Castle Rock Public Works to even higher achievements,” said Town Manager David L. Corliss.
With extensive historical knowledge of the Town and past performance on major projects, such as the Castle Rock Parkway/North Meadows Extension project, Sailer is well positioned to drive the Town’s Five-Year Capital Improvement and Pavement Maintenance programs, two of his top priorities.
“I am deeply connected to the community of Castle Rock and committed to improving transportation to meet the needs of residents,” said Sailer. “I’m very excited to begin this new role and further our commitment to provide excellent community service.”
Sailer played a large role in leading the Public Works team to becoming internationally accredited by the American Public Works Association. He currently serves as a chair on the association’s National Asset Management Committee and has contributed several articles to the group’s magazine.
Prior to working for the Town, Sailer served as an officer in the United States Air Force for six years, holding various civil engineering positions. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Colorado.
“We are confident that Dan will be an outstanding Public Works Director and member of the Town’s leadership team,” said Corliss.
