Maintaining a healthy lifestyle in Castle Rock just got a little easier. Introducing the new FitGround Adult Outdoor Fitness Park at Philip S. Miller Park. It’s the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and get a full-body workout close to home.
The FitGround course is located between the synthetic-turf athletic field and the Challenge Hill. The adult-only course provides body-weight and free-form tools for a variety of exercises, and is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, improve balance, strength and flexibility, and commit to getting fit in 2020.
Research shows people who exercise outdoors are more likely to repeat the behavior. Plus, outdoor adult fitness parks located within the sightline of a playground promote active behavior in adult family members, increases the time spent at the playground, and promotes the importance of lifelong fitness.
“Castle Rock is an active community,” said Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Brauer. “We are always looking at ways to add more options for residents’ fitness routines. The FitGround course offers unique workout opportunities that are sure to have a positive impact on the public’s health.”
The course provides a variety of fitness opportunities – aerobic fitness, muscle fitness, core fitness, and balance and flexibility training. The amenities include a fitness obstacle area with low-angle cardo climb, over and under bars, cargo net climber, battle rope station and more.
The course is free and open to the public during normal park hours. Additionally, the Town’s fitness staff will be offering instructor-led classes. Weather permitting, those classes are from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays. The classes are free with a Recreation Center or MAC membership. Or, stop by the Front Desk for a Daily Pass to participate. Please note, several pieces of equipment may be closed to the public during these classes.
The FitGround course is designed for adults and fitness users ages 13 and older. It is not recommended for younger children looking to play in the area. Children in the area are at risk of injury to themselves and the fitness users. Instructional use labels are included on each apparatus. Instructional videos on how to use the equipment are also on the way.
Stay tuned for those instructional videos and get more information at CRgov.com/FitGround.
