Discuss ideas for improving movement in Downtown at Oct. 17 open house

DowntownMobilityNewsGraphic

A team of experts has been exploring how to improve movement – driving, walking and bicycling – throughout Downtown Castle Rock. What ideas do they have toward that end?

Find out at an open house for the Downtown Mobility Study, being held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, in Council Chambers at Town Hall, 100 N. Wilcox St.

The study, which has been underway since spring, will build off of the Town’s master plans and 2017 Downtown Parking Study to define ways to maintain mobility Downtown. By 2040, both Wilcox and Perry streets are expected to be at or over capacity. Widening those streets isn’t an option due to space constraints.

Previous public outreach completed for this project identified public transportation and additional bike paths and parking as the most desired transportation improvements in Downtown. To meet these desires, the project team is exploring adding to Downtown a stop for Bustang – the Colorado Department of Transportation’s bus service between Colorado Springs and Denver. To improve bicycle access, the team is suggesting improving Downtown’s alleyways to make them more bike friendly.

These are just a couple ideas that will be shared for feedback at the open house. Other items that will be discussed are adding roundabouts, widening sidewalks, and adjusting available turning options for vehicles in some areas of Downtown.

Feedback collected at the open house will be used to finalize recommendations to present to Town Council for adoption when the study is complete.
