Castle Rock Police encourages you to “outthink a thief” to keep your car safe

In more than half of cases, burglarized cars were unlocked cars. Castle Rock Police place a high value on keeping the community safe, and they need your help.

Over the past several weeks, there has been an increase in the number of car break-ins reported to the Castle Rock Police Department. Because these types of property crimes happen in nearly all communities, Castle Rock Police offers these safety tips:

  • Remove cell phones, purses, cash, electronics or other valuables from your vehicle
  • Hide boxes, cases shopping bags or gym bags from plain sight
  • Park your vehicle in areas that are well lit
  • Take your garage door opener from your vehicle after parking
  • Stay with your car while warming it up
  • Lock your car and take your keys with you
  • Consider investing in a car alarm
  • Keep a second set of keys in a safe place, rather than inside your car

Police stress that these safety tips should be used while out in public and at home.
