Castle Rock Fire and Rescue remembers 9/11

ceremony

Americans who are old enough to remember 9/11 can recall exactly where they were when they first heard the news of the terrorist attacks. As a nation, we’ll mark the 15th anniversary of 9/11 on Sunday.

More than 3,000 people were killed in those attacks, including more than 400 police officers and firefighters. To remember those lost, the Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department will continue its tradition of hosting a 9/11 remembrance ceremony.

The public is invited to attend this short memorial service. It will begin at 7:50 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, at Fire Headquarters, 300 Perry St.

“Remembering events such as this is a way to honor those who were lost, and express gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy,” said Castle Rock Fire Chief Art Morales. “9/11 touched lives in every corner of our great nation.”

The ceremony will include the Castle Rock Police Department Honor Guard, a moment of silence, and the traditional bell-ringing ceremony for fallen firefighters. The service is expected to last until 8:30 a.m.
