Night work Downtown to bring intermittent noise, lane closures

news item

Work associated with a former gas station at the site of Town Hall will bring intermittent noise and lane closures in the area for about three weeks beginning July 17.

Fuel tanks from the former gas station were removed years ago from the Town Hall site,100 N. Wilcox St. Still, residual compounds remain in the soil and groundwater nearby.

The Town actively monitors the situation in accordance with State requirements, with assistance from outside experts. These remediation engineers have recommended injecting a remediation agent into the ground in attempt to reduce the level of residuals.

The residuals are contained to the immediate area and do not pose a public danger.

Injecting the compound will require boring up to 72 2-inch holes into the concrete at Town Hall and on Wilcox Street, at depths ranging from 16 to 25 feet.

Due to high daytime traffic on Wilcox Street, this work will be done between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The full street will not be closed at any point; lane closures only will be used. Intermittent drilling noise can be expected as the holes are drilled.

The Town is completing this work through a contract with geotechnical and environmental consultants A.G. Wassenaar Inc. Information regarding any changes to the planned schedule will be posted at
