Castle Rock residents know there is no place like home. While some follow the yellow brick road, our residents follow more than 75 miles of trails and 5,800 acres of open space. That’s a lot of ground to cover, so the Town is inviting everyone this summer to get outdoors and explore some of the Town’s beautiful parks, trails and open space with the Summer Trails Exploration Program, or STEP.
The summer-long program is kicking off for the second year. The program started with the American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day on June 4, and continues through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5. Spend the summer exploring Castle Rock trails and be entered to win an outdoor-themed prize.
An online registration form and tracking log can be downloaded at CRgov.com/STEP. Residents can spend the summer exploring the Town’s open spaces and trails. Then, keep record of the number of participating trails they’ve visited with the online tracking log. Every trail hiked will equal one entry into the grand-prize drawing at the end of the season. Participants can earn up to 16 entries. Completed logs should be submitted by Tuesday, Sept. 6.
The 16 participating STEP trails include:

The Town’s natural resource specialist will lead participants on the 2-mile Gold Loop. Stay tuned for more information on guided hikes to be planned throughout the season.
More information on the STEP program, including a map and details of each participating location can be found at CRgov.com/STEP. All prizes will be awarded after Sept. 7.
