Castlewood Ranch 1 Well Facility

AKA Lost Canyon Road - New Well Site
Project update: Feb. 14, 2018

As Castle Rock Water continues to ensure a strong water future, plans are underway for new groundwater wells. Castle Rock Water is building a new municipal well facility and pipeline at the corner of Lantern Circle and Lost Canyon Ranch Road, east of Matney Park. These wells will enhance our water service and provide high quality drinking water to our residents.

Project details

Well drilling

Last summer, one of the two wells was drilled. The second well drilling is scheduled to begin mid-February. Drilling will continue 24 hours a day for approximately 10 to 12 weeks. In order to help dampen drilling rig noise, a 16-foot high sound wall will be installed around the site.

Well house construction

Construction of the well house to enclose the wells will begin the first week in February and continue through summer 2018. Construction will occur during the daytime hours (7 a.m.-6 p.m.).

Pipeline construction

A pipeline to connect the wells to Founders Water Treatment Plant will begin early February. Construction will continue until late May and activity will occur during the daytime hours (7 a.m.-6 p.m.). The pipeline will follow the Xcel power line corridor between Lantern Circle and High Plains Place. The new pipeline is represented in blue on the map and will tie into the existing (purple) infrastructure. Expect construction equipment along all sections of the (blue) pipeline.

Closures and affected areas

  • At the Disc Golf Course the baskets for holes 3, 4, 5, and 7 are located in the construction area.  Hole No. 3 is currently closed. Holes 1 and 2 should be usable. Holes 6 and 8 should be playable, but the tee boxes will be located in the construction zone and the players will need to start outside of the construction area. The tee boxes at those holes will be reconstructed once construction is complete.  Holes 2 and 3 may eventually need to be relocated due to the location of the well facility.
  • A small section of the Mitchel Creek Trail trail underneath the power lines will be closed between East Manchester Drive and Mikelson Boulevard. (Designated in red on the map.) A rudimentary detour (yellow) will be provided. This detour may not be handicap accessible. However, all unaffected and accessible trails in the area are designated in green.
  • Several trail access points along the paved trail underneath the power lines have been closed during construction in order to ensure the the safety of trail users.
  • No roads will be closed. The pipeline will go under the roads through an existing line and thus no road closures are scheduled. However, some sidewalks may be affected during construction.
Completion for the entire project, including site and trail restoration and re-vegetation is scheduled for Summer 2018.
