Summer Trails Exploration Program (STEP)

Step into summer once again with STEP! Back for the second year in a row, residents of all ages are invited to spend the beautiful summer days of Colorado exploring the paved and soft-surface trails that travel through Castle Rock.

This program starts on American Hiking Society's National Trails Day - Saturday, June 4 - and continues through the Labor Day weekend.

Join the fun

The first 50 participants who sign up for STEP will receive a free t-shirt celebrating the inaugural year of the program.

Submit a completed "passport" tracking the hikes you enjoy this summer and be entered into a grand prize drawing for an outdoor-themed gift. The more sites you visit, the more entries you receive for the drawing.

Award winning

STEP was recognized by the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA) in 2015. At the annual awards banquet, CPRA presented the Town with the Columbine Award for Programming based on the program's creativity, innovation, results, execution, community benefit and overall contribution to the success of parks and recreation in the state of Colorado. This is the Town's first Columbine Award for design, innovation or programming.

“My husband and I just recently retired and found these local hikes to be a fun adventure.
We enjoyed exploring all the local open space and trails in Castle Rock. It was an eye-opener to know all the open space area available to Castle Rock residents. We look forward to expanding our hikes to our surrounding mountain area. Thanks for the fun and the inspiration to enjoy the outdoors through hikes.”
