Colorado Department of Transportation Projects

The Town of Castle Rock and the Colorado Department of Transportation share the important responsibility of making roads in Castle Rock safe for all travelers. CDOT owns and maintains Interstate 25 as well as all state highways, which includes U.S. Highway 85 (Meadows Parkway from the junction with U.S. 85 to I-25) and State Highway 86 (Founders Parkway east). The Town owns and maintains the other public roadways in Town.

I-25 PEL: Colorado Springs Denver South Connection

Between Monument and C-470, I-25 experiences congestion on numerous days throughout the week. Weekday and weekend travel delays and unreliability frustrate travelers now and will only get worse as Colorado's population grows from 5 million to more than 8 million in the next 20 years. Congestion, high (75 mph) speeds, and climbing grades contribute to severe crashes and can lead to long periods of highway closures.

CDOT initiated this Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study to identify immediate and longer-term solutions to this vital stretch of highway, connecting Colorado Springs and the Denver South area.

Founders Parkway and Allen Way

The Town and CDOT recognize the importance of improving this intersection. CDOT and the Town have agreed on the design of this intersection. A second eastbound left-turn lane onto Allen Way from Founders Parkway will be added as part of future construction. It will not be part of the concrete replacement. However, once the construction is complete, crews will re-stripe the westbound right-turn-only lane into a through-lane.

Town Council first heard of the plans and options for this road work in June 2013. Read the Town Council memo or watch the Town Council presentation.

Then, CDOT and the Town hosted two open houses - one for residents and one for business owners - to gather input on a specific part of the project, the Founders Parkway and Allen Way intersection. Read CDOT's Report.
